Martinborough Mews is an exciting new adventure for Robyn and Peter McKeown. Neither is native to the Wairarapa; both are mad about it.
Based in Wellington for 30 years – Peter still works there – they were regular recreational visitors across the Rimutaka Hill and liked the region so much that, eight years ago, they bought a house here. Life in the Wairarapa has only increased their enthusiasm for it and they cannot wait to share their love and their knowledge with their guests.
Au fait with Australia and Europe, they are extremely well-travelled in New Zealand. Their mission is to open the eyes of Kiwi and international guests to the Wairarapa’s hidden treasures as well as its better-known attractions and pursuits. Part of their vision is a hidden treasure of their own – Peter’s three glorious vintage cars, in which he intends eventually to chauffeur guests about the Wairarapa.
In the short term, he won’t be giving up his day job. Robyn is boss at Martinborough Mews but on weekends Peter’s there with bells on.
You’ll find them friendly, helpful, informed and willing to give you as much attention, or as little of it, as you like.
Should they be fortunate enough to glimpse him, dog-lovers will be deeply impressed by the McKeowns’ magnificent hound, Basil.
Robyn and Peter look forward to your visit.
HOW LONG CAN YOU STAY?
